Monday Rants

I don't know if it's because this stupid cold isn't going away, my ears are all stuffed up now so I can't hear very well. Very disturbing...Anyway lots of things made me angry today.

1. The girls gossiping in class for 20 minutes and the professor not interrupting them to continue on with class. I don't pay to listen to who is dancing in "Dancing with the Stars". It also makes me mad because I look at the class schedule and we are behind!!

2. I stopped by McDonalds on the way to work and all of the employees were at the door to get in, gossiping and smoking. Surely there has to be an employee break area and I'm positive it's not at the entrance.

3. At work we were told Friday we'd have a test today to go over the things we've learned in training so far. We didn't have the test, in fact we didn't cover anything new either. We listened to more calls. Sure, they were doing typing tests, which I still have to take, but only got through about a third of the class. Poor time management, pet peeve!!

I don't have any more rants, other than I wish my ears would clear. I feel like I'm in a tunnel. GAH!!

pennies....

Jerry found this great site to download mp3's from. It's called AllofMp3. He downloaded an album that was $2.87, this same album is $9.99 on iTunes. So if you like saving money you might want to check it out. Oh yea..and you can preview the entire song before you buy.

Happy Listening :)

I'll have to check it out. iTunes can stack up fast even though it's .99 as you start clicking away the next thing you know you drop $20 before thinking too much about it. I love the whole TeeVee thing though as I don't get Sci-Fi and just bought the Battlestar Galactica mini series... :)

Curious Shopping

So Ceruleanlobster and I went shopping. She founds TONS of stuff. I unfortunately didn't get anything. I'm between sizes so I can't justify spending $40 on a pair of pants that will probably fall off me after an hour of wearing them. You know it's bad when you can slip them off while they are still buttoned and zipped. I guess I'll keep wearing the 4 pairs of pants that still fit me. *sigh*

My cold is still hanging around. I guess it really must like me. Yay for me.

Jerry downloaded the soundtrack for Curious George. All the music is done be Jack Johnson. It's awesome!! Very sing-a-long-able!!!

What a day!!

Whew...First I had to mail the rebate for our TiVo. Thankfully the post office is on the way to school. Then it was off to the Sign Language lab to tape my Signing story. We had to basically mimick this story on our tape. It was about this guy who went to the airport and was told the flight was delayed. So he got a newspaper, some candy and coffee and sat down. As he was reading his paper this man sat next to him. The man picked up a candybar and starting eating it. The guy looked at him shocked and picked up the candy and took a bite out of it. The man got upset and popped the rest of the candy into his mouth. The guy still reading the paper was totally mortified. He saw that the plane was leaving so he grabbed his stuff and boarded the plane. He was very upset. As he was sitting there he noticed his hair was messy so he reached back to get his comb. What did he find? ... the candy bar he bought. Tee hee hee.... It was fun to tell the story. I hope I do well. It's our first "test" of the semester.

I thought I would take an adventure after class and see how long it took me to get to CSD. I thought I could take one road to the highway but it seems to be closed. So I ended up going down several roads I'm not familar with and finally ended up on the highway. Only took me about 30-40 minutes. I thought it would take a LOT longer. So technically I could work after school. I'm kind of hoping thats the schedule I get. We should know by the end of this week.

I miss my nights with Jerry. I wonder if he misses me... He was sweet last night. We stayed up and watched 24 together. I thought he'd be all tired and stuff but he wasn't. He was actually chatty! tee hee hee...I like it when he's chatty. Maybe this being gone in the evenings is good for us. Nah!! I miss him!

I need to find a place where I can go online out by CSD. There is a Panera close by. I might hang out there between school and work next week. It seems silly to drive home and then back out. *shrug* we'll see.

Hi there,

I hope I'm not wrong on this, but is this Jeanne from Waverly High School Class of 85? Band class with Ms Rainer (I know I spelled that incorrectly) and later Mr Miller?

Am I right?

Hi, thanks for viewing my blog and leaving actual comments. I don't know how you came by it, but I presume cause of the address - surprised it wasn't taken myself. Anyways nice blog you got here, and though I don't usually read personal blogs I'll make an exception to yours since you were the first to leave a comment. OK this is getting to be a long comment so best of luck with your sign language degree and take care.

GA SK

My first night of training went well. We are learning the system and how to code each call. I think tonight we cover benefits and stuff like that. I'm trying to think why they need 3 weeks of training. I mean there are only so many different types of calls. I guess maybe some of it is to go over the confidentiality clauses again.

I have a terrible headache right now. It's sinus related. I just took some medicine hopefully it will be gone by the time I leave for training.

A whole lotta shopping!

I don't know what got into Jerry and I today but we decided to shop! We even went to the mall. We never go to the mall. Our first stop was Olive Garden for lunch. We were hankering for some of that salad. We were going to do their salad/soup lunch thingy, but I guess that's only during the week. We ended getting a full lunch. Oof...good thing we both skipped breakfast. He had some pork thingy and I had Shrimp Primavera with whole wheat linguini instead of the penne. And of course we both had some salad. YUM!

Next it was off to the mall to get Jerry a camera bag. With all his accessories he has outgrown his current bag. We headed back to Ritz Camera and found a nice bag for less than we had seen online. Yay us!

We wandered around the mall. Pottery Barn, Disney Store, Brookstone, The Discovery Store...you know, the usual stops :) Finally ended up at JC Penney's where we got Jerry some work pants. He keeps losing weight and I can't have him running around in droopy pants.

After leaving the mall, I thought about heading up to CompUSA. It's been a while so why not. We were bored there, picked up a card reader we needed and eye'd the TiVo's. We weren't really happy with their selection of models there so we paid for our card reader and headed over to Best Buy. Bingo! The 80-hour TiVo® Series2™ DVR was in stock. We picked it up along with a phone cord and a wireless adapter. On the way out I heard this come for Jerry's mouth, "You only want TiVo because Pappi said to get it." *giggle*

After hours of setting it up we finally got it running. Then discovered we needed to get an upgrade. Ugh..more dialup connection to get the firmware upgrade. After an hour and two reboots we had the right version of software on the DVR. Now the Adapter that Best Buy had sitting next to the TiVo's wasn't compatible. FRAUD!! They committed FRAUD!!. We zipped over to Radio Shack and picked up one off the TiVo recommended adapter list. Finally, everything works. We can transfer shows that we record to our PC's and play music and view pictures from our PC's on the TiVo.

Busy, busy, busy...

I've gotten used to not leaving the house before 11am. I know, I'm spoiled.  But today I had lots to do.  Jerry's birthday is today.  I had presents to buy and a card to get.  I ventured off to Wal-mart because they were supposed to have what I was looking for there.  I kinda knew they wouldn't but what the heck.  I haven't been to Wal-mart in months.  I think the last time I was in one was in Lansing with my Dad.  Sure enough, they didn't have what I was looking for.

The Avenue's mall did though.  A quick stop to Ritz Camera shop and I found what I was looking for.  I didn't expect to really spend the amount of money that I did.  But I really wanted him to have it.  I noticed that there were some new stores in the mall but didn't do any other shopping.  Sticker shock was setting in.  I decided that maybe I was hungry so I called Jerry and we decided to meet for lunch.   I'm terrible about keeping surprises so I ended up giving him the flash right away.  He was SO excited.  :)  I did good!

Next week I start my training and I'm getting anxious.  I still need to go grocery shopping so that Jerry has dinners while I'm at work.  Hmm...I need new clothes too.

Sniffle

Colds are terrible. Even doped up on sudafed and various cough drops I still feel miserable. I thought I had some vicks vapor rub...but I can't find it. I know when I was little that sure helped a lot.

Nothing else is going on. Yesterday's class was a joke. We didn't turn in any of our homework or do anything remotely related to American Sign Language. We don't have class on Monday either because of the holiday although our first Video test is due Wednesday. I really need to practice the story.

Jerry is much better. I just hope I don't pass this cold back to him. I feel guilty for being sick and not wanting to cook. I still do..even though it makes me very very tired. I wish I were rich and had a cook, maid..heck..a whole staff. Yea...I want a staff!

blah

Looks like I caught Jerry's cold. My throat feels like someone took a scrub brush to it. Luckily I don't talk much during the day so I shouldn't strain it too much. I'll probably have to load up on cold meds though before I head to class.

In other news, Jerry and I are to this season for Veronica Mars. We LOVE that show. She is so cute, clever and witty. I think she reminds Jerry of me. haha..okay..maybe not.

Not much else to report...

Winter Olympics

I don't know if it's because I grew up in the North. Or if it's because playing in the snow was a blast, but I absolutely go crazy during the Winter Olympics. I go around singing the Olympic Fanfare, make "Swooshing" sounds as I air-ski down the mountain. I ♥ the Winter Olympics. GO USA!!

Working Girl

Well, after months of waiting they are finally starting a night training class at CSD. I'll begin my training on February 20th and it will go on for three weeks. After that I'll be going to part time and only working about 20 hours a week. I had to check with her before I said "Yes". We are going on a cruise for Spring Break and didn't want to get a new job and then be fired for going on vacation. I'm hoping that I'll find some great contacts there for my future sign interpreting career.

No more coffee nights though...well..not during that three weeks. 6-11pm also cuts into my TV fun time. Thankfully Jerry said he'd tape everything for me so I could watch them the next day. He's so sweet :)

Cool afternoons

It's been unusually warm this winter. It's been perfect though the last few days. I love wearing my sweatshirts. Reminds me of growing up in Michigan. I really miss the snow this year. The funny thing is that my parents have said that they really haven't had much. I remember Dad and I racing along the farms on the snowmobiles. He'd wipe out and we'd laugh so hard. Dad and I always seem to find trouble. I really miss them.

We're going on a cruise this spring. The past ..hmm... five years, my parents have taken my brother, sister, her husband, Jerry and me on a cruise. This year my sister and her husband can't go because they have a little foster daughter. I can't wait to get on the boat. I love the motion, the salt air, the stars at night...

Stunned

Jerry, Lola (ceruleanlobster) and I went to see Walk the Line.  I have to say I really didn't expect it to be as good as it was.  It was a very good movie.  Reese Witherspoon (We were both wrong, Lola, she's from Baton Rouge, Louisiana) did a great job as June Carter Cash and Joaquin Phoenix, wow...he sounded just like Johnny Cash.  We came home and of course had to head over to iTunes and buy the soundtrack with them singing the songs that Johnny and June made famous for so many years.  I get a lump in my throat hearing some of the songs.  I'm such a girl at times.

After the movie we headed over to Smokey Bones.  YUM...their skillet cornbread with pecan butter is so very yum-alious.

I saw it with Angella, good movie, she's still having a hard time, she had to have a biopsy and the usual stuff on Friday, she might have cancer. Her family has a history of it apparently. She'll find out tomorrow, isn't that special, she'll find out if she has it or not on Valentine's Day. She's already got her gift from me, I paid extra so it could possibly arrive on V-day, but it arrived today instead, ugh, if I wanted it to arrive Monday, I wouldn't have paid extra.

Funny thought

So I'm awake, obviously I should be asleep at this hour so I google the word Insomnia. I giggled because it talked about how to recognize if you have insomnia. I'm thinking to myself. "I'm awake...isn't this a big clue?!?"

My week in review

Monday:

Burned my right index finger making myself breakfast.  OUCH!  Went to class but my finger was hurting bad so my signing was awkward. Picked up Ceruleanlobster from her work place and we did some errands before ending up at the Mellow Mushroom for some food and beers.  (mmm...beer)  After dinner we headed to our favorite coffee house in San Marco, Uncommon Grounds.  Got home and watched 24 with Jerry.

Tuesday:

Nothing happened that I can recall. I know my finger was still swollen so I didn't do much.

Wednesday:

Class again.  Finger is much better.  Feels like a callus and only hurts when I press it.  Watched Lost, even though it was a rerun.

Thursday:

Pajama Day!!  Logged on to SWG and met up with my guild for some fun :)  Happy Groundhog Day!!

Friday:

I'm pretty much a bum today.  *shrug*  Finger is much better.  The callus is shrinking but it's still really rough.  Tonight we'll do the normal payroll for Jerry's parent's Barbershop.  (It's on the Northside of town *shudder*)

I can't think of anything else, I'm pretty boring this week.
