Quiet weekend?

Why is it that when I don't have weekends off nobody asks us to do anythinng but when I do have weekends off we are busy?

We had a wonderful visit with Jerry's sister and her husband and his daughter. They are on their way to Mississippi right now. I'm hoping we take a trip to see them sometime because we were lame and didn't visit them when they were in London. Oh well...other things came up.

Three weeks left in the semester. Lots of projects and stuff so I'm meeting a friend from class later today to work on my signed poetry.

Hi I'm Jeanne, and I'm a registered Republican...

I don't really get into politics that much. I have to say that I'm not up on all the legislation that goes on locally or federally. This post is pretty much a political rant. I do try to pay attention to what is going on but sometimes they government just doesn't make much sense to me.

I did see that they want to raise minimum wage to $7.25. It is about @#$%ing time. Although the republicans tacked on a tax cut for the wealthiest....grrr. It's really a crime how many families struggle trying to make a good living.

Oh yea..let me rant about another thing. As I stated I am a registered Republican. I receive a lot of campaign propaganda in the mail. Usually I don't comment on it but this latest was just too much. Wasn't the actual content of what the material said but that it was on high gloss heavy weight paper. Do you really need to spend that kind of money to get your ideas out? Maybe this is why I don't send contributions to the party. Petty maybe but this is what is being done with peoples contributions. I would think that there could be better uses for that money.

I am glad to hear that the wiretapping issue has not died out. I do think it is very scary that investigators are not being "cleared" to do proper investigations. Exactly what is trying to be covered up? *sigh* The president (and yes I did not capitalize it on purpose) has circumvented checks and balances and it needs to be stopped.

Gay Marriages, Abortion, stem cell research, while all are important is it more important than homelessness, hunger and crime? Locally, Jacksonville has had 93 homicides this year alone. Correction...94 homicides, I just checked the local news and another person has been murdered. So sad...

Who knows who I'll vote for in November. I do know that I will be looking at all of the candidates closely.

I try not to vote according to party, though sometimes I wish it were as easy as just picking the person just because they belong to an organization. It's almost a reflex to vote for the party you grew up with (in my case Democrat), but I learned the hard way just cause someone's affiliated with the party you associate yourself with, doesn't mean they're the right candidate or even a good candidate. I figured out it'd be like saying just 'cause someone loves chocolate as much as you do that they'd be your perfect representative. You need to find out just how serious they are about chocolate, and make sure they'd show integrity and have chocolate's best interest at heart. They can't just pay chocolate lip service :)

Random ramblings

I have had one of those weeks that went by fast that I don't even remember planning that much stuff. I know part of it was spent catching up on sleep. I have a 6am call on tuesdays and that hour of the day was just not meant for me to be a part of.

School has about a month to go. Lots of projects due but I'm having a blast. One of the coolest things is that I have made some really great friends. It's always more fun to walk into a class and see people that are fun and smiling at you than a large lecture hall full of student zombies. The past two weeks I've been late getting home because we all stand around chatting after class. I'll see most of them tomorrow night at a Deaf Event. Fun fun fun!

In my alter ego gamer life things are going well too. The Sony Station pass has really helped my need for SWG while keeping other options open. I really like wielding a lightsaber..I don't think I would make the cut as a Jedi if it were really possible. I'm too sloth like. I'm no Jabba...but....you know this thought has already taken up way too much time then it should

"Dead Like Me"

I don't know why it happens but it does. Jerry and I get turned onto a show and then have to have these marathons. So today we watched some Dead Like Me from the DVD's. Taesmar was right....the full version is much funnier than the SciFi version. Something about an expletive just makes it "real".

So far my first weekend off since Mid February is going good. I slept until 9:20ish. I would have slept longer but the phone rang and woke Jerry up which woke me up. Ah well...at least 9:20ish isn't 5:30ish. I love sleep. I could make millions of dollars sleeping if it were a job. I am a sleep demon!

New to me TV

So Tivo, Which I love downloaded Dead Like Me which is now on the SciFi Channel. Now I know I had never seen it because (a) it's on Showtime and we don't subscribe to Showtime (b) If we had seen it I wouldn't be saying it's "new to me" now would I Anyway...it's a fun show. I'm really glad Tivo found it for us. Have I mentioned I love Tivo?

Also I missed the premiere of Eureka on the SciFi Channel but Tivo has that covered now too. Looks interesting. Looking forward to catching it this weekend. I know you can watch it at the SciFi website too...but I want to be in a nice comfy spot.

"We thought you was a toad!"

Today was the last Sunday I'll be working for awhile. It was quiet. I was hoping that they would let me go early but no such luck. Anyway...next weekend I'll get to sleep in.

Jerry and I are watching "O Brother, Where Aren't Thou". This happens to be one of my favorite movies. I crack up everytime I watch it. If you haven't seen it. I would recommend it.

Pleasant Suprises

First suprise is that I got a 92 on my midterm when I thought for sure I was getting a "C" on it.

Second one was the my mother-in-law did not have to have a heart bypass. They put in a shunt and said that they can always do a bypass later if need by but why do such an invasive surgery when there are "easier on the body" options.

Third suprise was the voice mail I received at 8:39pm from Lisa telling me that they were at the Cinderella, Poison Concert. "I want action tonight....Satisfaction alright!!" I wish I could have gone too. Man the 80's rocked!

Workin' for the weekend....

Yay!! We just got our new schedules at work and starting soon I will have weekends off. I thought for sure I'd have to be there a year before I got that but nope....not this weekend but the one after I'll be off. Now at anytime that could change but hopefully it won't. (Our schedule changes every 4 to 6 weeks)

Hmm...I think the first weekend off I'll just be really really lazy and sleep until I can. Hopefully Jerry will be up for that too.

Tomorrow, Jerry's mom goes in for some heart surgery. Hopefully they will be able to clear the blockage using the "balloon" method but if not than they will have to do open heart surgery and do a bypass. I'm praying for the balloon.

Wednesday I have another story to perform in my sign class. It's really bad because I don't have the story fleshed out at all. I usually am pretty good about doing it but seem to have signers block. I'm going to work on it tomorrow at work. Hopefully the pressure of having to have it done soon will help.

It's rated PG13. I'd say if they handled the first one that this one would be fine. I did jump a few times and the pirates were a bit icky looking. But over all it's just a great adventure film.

2 for 1!

Margaritas at 2 for 1 is a blessing after a midterm exam. That's right we went for drinks after class tonight. Lots of receptive signing going on. I'll be happy with a "B"...no ecstatic I should say..but I fear I won't get anything better than a "C". We did finally get our grades back for our past 3 sign stories and I aced them all

Next week is a handshape story so I'll be working on that all week long. Fun fun....

Independence Day!

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence. When reading the text it's difficult not to see how history repeats itself.

We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their CREATOR, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. If you continue to read you would be amazed at the similarities to "the king" and our current administration. Strange isn't it...

Anyway, here to faith that people will remember what this country stands for. United...for Freedom...

This made me think about Thomas Jefferson and what he would think of the current state of government in the United States.

I'm not a Jeffersonian by any stretch of the imagination and I find many of his views to be too radical for reality but I don't think the author of our Declaration of Independance would be all that pleased with the current state of affairs.

The Beautiful People

I'm sorry to say that we didn't make it to the Club Paris opening this past weekend. I know, it's crazy that I, with all my celebrity didn't make an appearance. So you maybe wondering what a busy, go getter like me was doing? I was working. That's right I worked all weekend. In fact I work tonight and tomorrow morning. It's not the celebrity life that people envisioned but it works for me.

We thought about going to a movie but honestly I was cranky most of the weekend. I'm fighting off an ear ache. I slept in today which has really helped. I did make it to WW though. Third straight week of losing. I love being a loser. I wish I could say it's because I'm drinking my water but it's not. I really need to work on that. It's not because I drink soda instead. I just don't drink anything. So this week I'm working on that again.

Why am I up at 2am?

When I should be asleep because I have to work at 7am? I don't know if any of you remember the accident back in December. This time I heard it. We were laying in bed sleeping when I heard the car hit the telephone pole right outside our bedroom window. It seemed like the crashing noises went on for 5 minutes but I know that isn't true. I hopped up and grabbed the phone and dialed 911 and as I did walked to our porch to see a silver SUV about 2 houses down crosswise in the road. I also noticed the telephone pole on the grass and splinters everywhere. Apparently from the neighbors gossip the guy left his vehicle afterwards and started running down the street. When the police arrived they checked out the car and then they went speeding off to find him. I didn't see it but others said there was lots of blood on the dashboard of the car. It looks like it rolled a few times.

I should mention that we live on a one way street. The posted speed limit is 30 mph but in both accidents the person was going more than 70 mph. Sure, I break speed limits. I'm not going to lie but 40 mph over the posted limit...uh..no. Also there is a curve right before our block which makes the speeding dangerous. Both cars lost control right at the point the curve starts. They are talking about making our road a two way road. Right now I'm not sure that it will be any safer. Maybe we need Barney Fife to sit on the corner and watch for speeders. I'm not sure...I do know that waking up to the sound of a car crashing is not pleasant in any way.

Mark, who lived on a sharp corner, can relate to having people crash so close to your house. They actually had one person crash up on their porch!

No...we didn't take any pictures this accident because the vehicle finally ended up like 4 houses down and I was cranky and tire. I could take a picture of the utility pole on the lawn but that's boring. You are always welcome to review the pictures from the last accident.
