Every thing’s bigger in Texas….That’s what she said!

TheAlamoEvery year Jerry’s work puts on a conference.  This year’s location was San Antonio, Texas.

We arrived here on Sunday afternoon.  My sister, Francie, and her family drove up from Laredo to for a visit.  It was great seeing them.  We walked along the Riverwalk and had some lunch.  She had some things from my parents house that she brought up with her.  One of them is a picture of me and my dad crewing on a 12 metre racing yachts True North in St. Maarten. A memory that fills my heart each time I think about it.  I miss sailing with my dad….

Monday was our fun day.  We walked to The Alamo.  We are both history buffs so any time we get to visit historical sites it’s a must.  I can’t believe how incredibly small the church is itself.  The walls of the compound are no longer standing but they do have markers to show you where the property lines are.

TPCSanAntonioYesterday was the annual conference golf tournament.  Jerry isn’t a golfer although he goes every year.  He has been taking the golf outing pictures for years.  I have been joining him on the course as his golf cart driver, or Camera Caddy as I refer to myself.  The courses are lovely and it’s nice to see the different courses.  This year’s course was the TPC San Antonio – AT&T Oaks Course. It was HUGE. (That’s what she said…) Usually Jerry and I can easily get around the course several times to get everyone’s picture.  This year it took us nearly 5 hours to get around the course twice to make sure we got each group.  Sprawling hills with wild flowers and cacti everywhere.  The weather was perfect, overcast with temps hitting around 80.  The winds on the other hand were crazy.  I’m sure that was another “challenge” the golfers had.  All in all, everyone enjoyed themselves and I got a lot of golf cart time logged in for my profession cart drivers license. 🙂

Today has been a “Jeanne Day”.  I woke up late, had Chicken Bacon fajitas along the riverwalk, and basically did nothing.  It’s wonderful.  Tonight I’m attending a Welcome Reception with Exhibitors for the conference.  We’ll see what kind of swag I can score.  Tomorrow includes more “Jeanne Time” while Jerry works.  I think I might do a Riverwalk boat tour.  Tomorrow night the conference event is at the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum which includes the Texas Ranger Museum.  Looking forward to that!!
